Deliverables

The H2HEAT project is structured into seven work packages (WPs). Each WP delivers specific outputs that together enable the production, transport and use of green hydrogen for heating on the island.

#1: Planning and Preparation Phase

WP1: Planning and preparation phase

This work package covers the overall detailed project plan preparation, including budget and a detailed Gantt chart, all required consenting and permitting, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), resource and demand forecasting, site survey, techno‑economic analysis, and Health & Safety (H&S) strategy and plan. Ongoing environmental impact studies will be completed during the test period.

#2: Definition and Acquisition Phase

WP2: Definition and acquisition phase

This WP includes all detailed designs with functional and technical specifications for technologies requiring innovation, and the overarching control system procurement. It also covers the procurement of all project equipment, including components, and preparation of the H₂ production and storage site.

#3: Build and Installation Phase

WP3: Build and installation phase

All technologies and equipment that require innovation and construction will be delivered in this WP. This includes software development for the Control System and connection of the renewable energy power cabling. The Test Team will deliver the test strategy and plans with comprehensive KPIs, covering Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and full demonstration trials. FAT must be passed at each technology partner facility prior to transport to the H2HEAT location. The H₂ facility, including electrolyser and storage, will be prepared and kitted out. All equipment will be delivered to the PLOCAN H₂ site facility or hospital consumer as appropriate and installed.

#4: Commission, Demonstration and Test Phase

WP4: Commission, demonstration and test phase

This WP covers the full commissioning, demonstration and testing of the complete supply chain, from renewable energy conversion to hydrogen production and on to generation of heating at the hospital. The demonstration will include extensive monitoring and optimisation cycles.

#5: Exploitation and Commercialisation

WP5: Exploitation and commercialisation

This WP runs in parallel with the above phases, working closely with WP7 (Dissemination & Communication). It will establish the Exploitation Working Group and deliver the full Exploitation Plan.

#6: Project Coordination and Management

WP6: Project coordination and management

This WP will coordinate all activities and manage risks. It will establish the Advisory Board and maximise the effectiveness of these experts. The WP also covers the IP and knowledge management strategy and project contracting.

#7: Dissemination and Communication, and QH Engagement

WP7: Dissemination and Communication, and Quadruple Helix (QH) Engagement

This work package runs concurrently with the project and is responsible for both the initial and ongoing socio‑economic analysis. To ensure that H2HEAT is embraced by society, this WP will engage Quadruple Helix (QH) and community stakeholders, including local authorities, industry, research institutions and civil society. H2HEAT will identify local community champions to serve as representatives.
