PLOCAN is a research infrastructure, legally established as a public consortium between the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (MINECO), and the Regional Government of Canary Islands. Born with the aim of building, equipping and operating a set of marine infrastructures for research in the field of marine science and technology, PLOCAN has participated in more than 60 European projects related with multi-use, offshore energy, aquaculture, climate action, and the marine. Due to its experience, PLOCAN will lead the WP6 Coordination.
The participation of PLOCAN as a coordinator and decarbonisation alliance partner SCS ensures access to the critical local infrastructure needed to carry out the project activities, both offshore and onshore. The SCS has signed a collaboration agreement with PLOCAN in order to promote the generation of manageable offshore energy, in particular through the production of green hydrogen, and its application to decarbonise facilities of the Canary Islands Health Service. The partners through H2HEAT will be able to make impactful use of the funding, are experienced in the management of R&D projects, and also have the pertinent capability to carry out the different tasks involved in the project. Finally, all partners in the Consortium have proven experience in open science practices and maintain policies that demonstrate the commitment to promote gender equality in their activities, including Research and Innovation.
