Find out more about the H2Heat Supply and Value Chain Concept 1024 284 H2Heat Project

The H2HEAT concept aims to advance the entire supply and value chain for Green Hydrogen (H2) for heating and Oxygen (O2) to at least Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL7). This will be achieved by addressing key stages related to technology innovation, cost efficiencies, infrastructure effectiveness, and enhancing end consumer confidence in supply and support.

In an exciting collaboration with SCS, H2HEAT is tasked with fully leveraging the project results to implement a replicable solution in nine other large hospitals. To have a lasting impact, H2HEAT, in partnership with the Canary Island organization GobCan, will also formulate plans for extending the H2HEAT solution to other substantial heat consumers, such as hotels and other entities within the tourism sector.

This concept goes far beyond a mere demonstration of the use of H2 produced from RE  for heating:

Using local offshore renewable energy for H2 production, storage, and onshore use boosts Gran Canaria’s autonomy and reduces mainland dependence. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in every aspect of our project, from the energy source to the end product. By harnessing the abundant offshore renewable resources surrounding us, we’re minimizing our carbon footprint and maximizing our island’s energy potential.

The Stargate electrolyser, the heart of our operation, showcases cost-effective, efficient ceramics-based electrodes. Cutting-edge technology ensures that hydrogen production is not only green but also cost-effective. We believe in setting a new standard for efficiency and environmental responsibility.

The 2G Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit, designed specifically for hydrogen, is the first 100% H2-capable unit with high efficiency and flexible gas quality requirements. This technology allows us to harness hydrogen’s full potential, offering a cleaner and more efficient solution for energy needs.

The innovative H2-CHP/heat pump system generates significant heat output from green hydrogen. We’re not just generating electricity; we’re also producing heat, making it a versatile energy source for a wide range of applications.

The H2Heat Project

Multiple renewable energy sources, including offshore wind, solar, and photovoltaic, reduce the impact of energy variability through advanced control systems. Gran Canaria’s energy future is a harmonious blend of diverse renewable sources, ensuring stability and reliability.

A centralized hydrogen facility is a better alternative to limited rooftop solar photovoltaic for the commercial sector. We understand the unique energy needs of businesses, and we’re here to provide a solution that guarantees both economic and environmental sustainability.

Utilizing offshore wind energy maximizes valuable island space, crucial for the tourism industry. Our approach not only benefits the environment but also ensures that our island remains a pristine destination for visitors from around the world.

A fully interactive platform engages islanders in the H2HEAT project, promoting hydrogen adoption in Gran Canaria’s power and heat. We believe in the power of community involvement and education, as we work together to build a sustainable future.

Future plans involve collaborating with local businesses, hotels, energy consumers, supply chains, and investors, ensuring project continuity and accelerating Green Hydrogen adoption. We’re building a foundation for a future that’s cleaner, more efficient, and self-reliant. Join us on this exciting journey towards a greener, more sustainable Gran Canaria.

The future is hydrogen, and together, we’re shaping it on our beautiful island. Welcome to the H2HEAT project – the future of hydrogen production on Gran Canaria.

In the medium term, the H2HEAT concept will play an important part in the impact of advancing the use of H2 for heating beyond Gran Canaria to all the island group, and longer term, for all islands.
